Where does the Time go?
Another year is about to go into the history books, and — while it WAS overall better than the previous God-awful year — it was still one that left the human race reeling from the ever-evolving Pandemic and the ongoing political fallout of the 2020 American election.
I hesitate to get political in my blogs, but Politics and the Pandemic — and the increasing impacts of Climate Change — were the three main themes of 2021.
The treasonous acts of the former president up to, including, and since the January 6 insurrection and attempted overthrow of our duly-elected government dominated the news pretty much throughout the year.
We can only hope and pray that the Forces of Good in our country will continue to prevail and bring these traitors to justice -- and show their supporters that hateful, violent fascism is NOT where this country -- or any other country -- should be headed.
The Pandemic — although beginning to come under some control through the fantastic efforts of the science community with vaccines saving thousands if not millions of lives — keeps us on our guard and at odds with each other as a minority of citizens continue to oppose vaccines designed to keep them and their children alive.
Have they forgotten about the smallpox, polio, diphtheria, influenza and all the other shots that have been created to fight and overcome these diseases? Vaccines we’ve relied on almost without question since their creation?
Again, the former president can take credit for creating this small army of idiots who won’t wear masks or get vaccinated to protect themselves, their kids or the vulnerable.
Even though the FP ultimately contracted COVID, received his vaccinations --- including a booster -- and (occasionally) wears a mask???
It makes ZERO sense.
And then there’s climate change, which in 2021 seemed to go up another notch in its danger to our world.
Record-breaking heat, drought in some parts of the country and flooding in others, wildfires across the West, the loss of more arctic and antarctic ice than ever before — and yet many (again mostly the former president’s mob) continue to deny climate change and instruct their legislators to ignore it.
Now let’s look at the good things that happened in 2021:
A violent insurrection, intended to overthrow our nation’s 245-year-old democracy, was ultimately NOT successful and the cowardly traitors involved are slowly being brought to justice.
A new president — Joe Biden — has brought civility and competence back to the office and restored to a large extent the respect of the world for the United States after four shameful years.
He’s also trying his best to fund so many things that have been ignored too long, including the nation’s failing infrastructure. But because he wants to fund his plan mostly by taxing the super-rich, their well-funded puppets in Congress have fought him every inch of the way.
How this will eventually end is anybody’s guess.
Regarding climate change, Biden has returned the U.S. to the Paris Climate Accords designed to turn back the ongoing global warming disaster through collective worldwide action.
Definitely a hopeful step in the right direction.
2021 — It was another momentous year in human history. Now we all must do our best to make sure 2022 is a much, much better one.
For us, and our kids.
